Who is the true Wing Goddess? Hitomi or Sora? There is no true answer to this question-the director, Kazuki Akane, stated that he specifically left the Wing Goddess question ambiguous so that the viewers could form their own opinions. So, in this section I'll present the evidence for both parties and then subject you to my theory that views Hitomi and Sora as two sides of the same goddess. Hitomi as the Wing Goddess
I believe that Hitomi and Sora are two sides of the Wing Goddess. Sora is the enigma, the mysterious aspect of gods and goddesses. Hitomi is the earthly aspect; she can make emotional connections and ties that one can't make if they were a huge omnipotent god. You could say Hitomi is the one who the Goddess works through to get things done. Hitomi is the one that people look up to and believe; she is the figurehead, drawing others' attention from Sora, as she does her work with Folken, who for some reason or another, she has taken pity on. When she is done with Folken, she disappears, just a random victim of the war. Yet before she leaves, Sora cements Hitomi's figurehead position as the Wing Goddess by giving her wings and allowing her to go home in a dramatic (and gut-wrenchingly beautiful) fashion.
